On Friday September 1st, the NCS varsity football team traveled to Somerville, TN to face the (0-2) Fayette Academy Vikings, to look for their first win of the regular season.
Before the game, Coach Brothers told the team that General George Washington “lost” his first ever battle. He told us that because the team has not gotten off to a good start for the season and the best General that the US has ever had did not start off good either.
The team started the game off fast getting a ten point lead in the first quarter. Then the Fayette Academy Vikings scored in the 2nd quarter of the game and ended up going into halftime 10-7.
At halftime Coach Brothers said, “We started of better” than the first 2 games of the season.
After the start of the second half of this Division 2 high school football game, the Eagles and Vikings both scored a touchdown again in the 3rd quarter to put the score at 17-14 with the Eagles still leading at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Then, in the 4th quarter the Eagles scored 2 more touchdowns to pull out their first win of the season against the Fayette Academy Vikings 31-14.
After the game Coach Brother said, “We will not be watching film Saturday” because we would not get back to the school till about 1am in the mourning.
The next game for the Eagles will be away in Columbia, TN against the (1-2) Zion Christian Academy Eagles on September 8th at 7pm. The Eagles will hope to win their 2nd game of the season that night.
