The Eagles Are One Step Away

Last Friday night, The Eagles played their first playoff game vs King’s Academy. The game was a good matchup. King’s Academy scored on their first drive to make it 7-0. But after that the Eagles scored 28 unanswered points to make the final score 28-7. The Eagles will play Friendship Christian in the semi-finals on Friday, Nov. 17.

The game started off slow for both teams on offense. The defenses were playing good, and the Eagles defense caused some key turnovers.

Then the Eagles offense stepped up. It was a ground-and-pound game for the Eagles. Xavier Myers got most of the work with 36 carries for 277 yards and 3 TD’s. Jesse Watson also got some work done in the backfield. Watson had 6 carries for 44 yards and a TD. The Eagles had a total of 326 yards on offense.

The Eagles defense only allowed one touchdown and that was on the first drive. The defense held TKA scoreless the rest of the game and only allowed 70 yards in the 2nd half.

Brant Lawless had a great game with 8 tackles, 4.5 TFL and a sack. Jesse Watson had 9 tackles and a INT. Also, Sid Morris had good game with 7 tackles and 3.5 TFL.

Jesse Parrish (LB) , junior talked about what does the defense need to do against Friendship saying, “We need to rally to the ball and shut down #3 and #8. We also need to force turnovers.”

This Friday the Eagles are headed back on the road to Lebanon, TN for one of the most important games of the year. The winner of this game goes to the state championship game and with either play Davidson Academy or Donelson Christian Academy .

Talking about the importance of this game to him and the team, junior Xavier Myers (RB) said, “I want to show that we are the best team in the division and as a team that we love playing with each other and that we all have a goal to make it to the state game.”

Xavier Myers and Brant Lawless were selected as Mr. Football finalists on Monday for Division 2-1A.

Friendship Christian is undefeated (11-0). Friendship had a bye the first week, and last week they played Middle Tennessee Christian and won 48-8. Friendship likes to run the ball and are averaging 316 rushing yards a game. The Eagles offense needs to score early to get the home crowd quiet and the defense needs to make Friendship one dimensional in order to make them throw the ball. The game is at 7 pm at Friendship Christian. #WeAreNC
