Teacher Spotlight: Coach Spann

IMG_7637The 2015-2016 school year at Nashville Christian definitely started off different in several ways. One of the most noticeable changes is the new teachers who joined the Nashville Christian family. With the addition of several new teachers, we are also sad about the subtraction of Mr. Grisso, our former high school Spanish teacher. He was with the Nashville Christian family for several years, and was loved by many current and graduated students. This year, we gained a couple great teachers, one of them being Coach Joey Spann.

“I teach Bible class for the 8th graders, juniors, and seniors,” Coach Spann said. “I also coach basketball for the middle school and high school girls. My favorite bible verse has got to be 1 Corinthians 15:57, which says ‘But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.’ I chose this verse, mainly because it greatly reminds me of the victory in Christ and how we should be thankful for him.” He also added, “I wanted to become a teacher here at Nashville Christian, because a lot of my friends around here that work in the staff here, and I wanted to work with them and me closer to them as well. I also wanted to be a teacher, because I wanted to get a second job to support me while I do my job at preaching. And lastly, students have taught me outside of the classroom that you don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Students also enjoy being in Coach Spann’s bible class. Senior Tate Richardson said, “My favorite thing about being in Coach Spann’s class is that he’s easy going. My favourite thing about Mr. Spann is that he’s really funny and likes to joke around with students.”

Coach Spann plans to continue to be a teacher and coach at Nashville Christian for as long as he can and will always be committed in his teaching and coaching career.
