Tournament Time

With the regular season coming to an end, the Eagles are on the rise heading into the district tournament. The Lady Eagles will have to face either Lead Academy or Clarksville Academy, seeming to be a sure win. The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Panthers and the Lady Cougars twice this year. The boys will play the Jo Byrns Red Devils. The Eagles won both match ups this season by more than 30 points each. A first round win means automatic birth in the in the region tournament. Last season, the Eagles had to go to Moore County and play in the first round of the region tournament. This is of course when Mickey Martin had the buzzer beating layup to win and advance to the second round, where they faced off against the McEwen Warriors. Another fun game for the fans, Dusean Sayles got a steal and a layup with 3 seconds left to give the Eagles the 4 point lead and the win. This gave NCS their first birth in the sectional round in years. The Eagles look to maintain this success and get to their first state appearance in 32 years.

The Lady Eagles, however, lost in the first round of region last year. This year, they expect to advance farther, and maybe even get to the sectional round. With recent success from the football and wrestling teams, winning is something we are used to around here. The Lady Eagles have never been to the State tournament, and there is a belief that they could finally make it there this year. The roster is loaded with seniors, and they know that this is there last go-round. The girls will leave everything out on the court and each game will be filled with lots of emotions. To see the Eagles play this year in the district tournament, visit McEwen High School on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. First round region will be held at the higher seed’s home court, and the second round and championship games will also be at McEwen, come out and support the Eagles and Lady Eagles.
