On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the NCS Eagles Wrestling team faced off against their first opponents of the season, Ensworth and Watertown. Ensworth came first, and NCS ended up dominating them with a final score of 58-18.
Jerry Morrison, assistant wrestling coach, said “We wrestled Ensworth first. It went really well. On paper it seemed like we matched up pretty even with them, but we ended up winning 58-18. We started off with 3-4 pins in a row.”
Adam Young, a junior, ended off the match vs. Ensworth with a big pin. Adam’s opponent was about to get the pin, but he managed to flip his guy over and pin him.
Both seniors on the team, Sid Morris and Cade Thompson, won their matches even though they wrestled up. Cade Thompson said “It went pretty well, I won. I Wrestled up to 170. It was pretty 1 sided. There wasn’t really a point where I felt in trouble. I’m really excited to be back this year.”
Against Watertown, NCS won handily with a score of 60-12 as their team only had 6 wrestlers. Some big pins against Watertown came from Joseph Curley, Will Whitfield, Zach Young, and Richmond Flowers.
All 8th graders that are wrestling, that being Logan Page, Luke Page, Daniel Duncan, Lucas Klein, Richmond Flowers, and Axton Hunt, put in a lot of work for the team as well. Lucas and Richmond Flowers managed to even get some big pins against water town.
Looking forward to the future, the wrestling team is leaving this Friday at 12:00 to participate in the Charlie Bruce Duels tournament down in Fultondale, Alabama. It will have teams from all over Alabama and Florida.
Morrison said “It’s always a good team building experience that gets our guys some valuable mat time. This year we’re taking our whole team, so we’re hoping to get some hardware.”
