On January 15th, 2018 the day following the 35-14 lost to Patriots, the Titans decided to fire Coach Mike Mularkey. Mularkey revived a Titans team with the NFL’s worst record over two seasons and led them to their first playoff victory in 14 years.
5 days later on January 20th, 2018 the Titans hired coach Mike Vrabel. Vrabel was the defensive coordinator for the Texans. Vrabel coached for the Texans for 3 years. Vrabel has NFL experience as player and coach. Vrabel is a 3x Super Bowl Champion and played for 3 different NFL teams: the Patriots, Steelers and Chiefs.
Some students have their opinion on the new hire, Tyler Demonbreun, a junior at NCS says “I think he could be a good coach for them but Vrabel needs to bring in the right staff for the team.”
GM Jon Robinson said they needed a “leader of men” type of coach and said Vrabel was the perfect fit for the job. Titans fans were concerned with Mularky’s scheme of offense and former OC Terry Robiskie because Marcus Mariota had the worst season yet with a career high of 15 INT and only 13 TD and offense struggled with scoring in the red zone. Vrabel currenting targeting former QB coach at Oregon. Vrabel wants to run the Oregon style offense to make him feel comfortable.
Jesse Parrish commented on what scheme they need run, “They need to run a scheme that fits Mariota to make him feel comfortable.”
The Titans have had 3 different coaches since 2011 and none have worked out as planned, maybe Vrabel is the missing piece.
