As prom gets closer, you can feel the excitement all around school. Everyone is talking about it—what they’re wearing, who they’re going with, and what they’re doing before and after. What used to feel really far away is now coming up fast, and people are getting more hyped every day. For juniors especially, this is our first prom, which makes it even more exciting. It kind of feels like a big moment in high school, something you’ve heard about for years and now finally get to experience. People are planning outfits weeks in advance, and “promposals” are all over social media. It’s not just about the dance—it’s about the whole experience leading up to it. “I’ve been waiting for this all year,” said junior Paxton Nash. “It’s not even just the dance, it’s everything, even just having a really fun night.” Even during class, people are distracted, talking about colors, matching with dates, and making group plans. Friend groups are organizing where they’re going to eat and how they’re getting there, whether it’s limos, party buses, or just riding together. At the same time, there’s a little bit of pressure for everything to be perfect, but most people are just excited to hang out and make memories. Since it’s our first prom, everyone wants it to be a night to remember. Overall, prom feels like one of those classic high school experiences that everyone looks forward to. And now that it’s almost here, it’s all anyone can think about.
