The trailer for the fourth and final season of Star Wars Rebels recently came out and I can assume there’s a lot of excitement about what’s to come. I know I’m excited.
The rebels will continue to face against the likes of Grand Admiral Thrawn. We will also be seeing a return from Clone Wars and Rogue One with the character Saw Gerrera, who previously appeared in Rebels in the two-parter Ghosts of Geonosis. There will also be an appearance from an iconic Star Wars vehicle: the X-wing. We will also get another character that appeared in the Clone Wars tv show: Bo-Katan Kryze. Bo-Katan served as a member of the Mandalorian group known as Death Watch and the sister of former Duchess Satine Kryze. I think there is a lot of excitement over the subtle announcement of the return of a more iconic Clone Wars character: Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka hasn’t appeared in Rebels since the second season finale.
There might also be some excitement from the canonization of another Legends character: Rukh, who will be voiced by Warwick Davis—best known as the actor who potrayed the Ewok Wicket W. Warrick in Return of the Jedi.
Rukh is a character who, like Thrawn, was introduced in the trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn known as the Thrawn Trilogy. He is a Noghri, which are a Star Wars alien species whose homeworld, Honoghr (in the Legends universe) was contaminated by a toxin that ravaged the planet and destroyed most of the planet’s flora. When Vader arrived to Honoghr, he offered that the Empire would restore the Noghri’s home in exchange for the Noghri’s service to the Empire. When Vader died, the Noghri served Thrawn. In Rukh’s case, he served as Thrawn’s personal bodyguard. However, the empire tricked Rukh’s people by keeping Honoghr contaminated. When the Noghri found out, Rukh was the one who killed Thrawn. It’s not known yet if this backstory or even elements of it will be kept canon, but I think it probably will. Another thing that might cause some worry is the fact that Rukh killed Thrawn five years after Return of the Jedi and Rebels is closer to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope. However, I think I’d like to see some of the Thrawn Trilogy incorporated into this season. Only time will tell how this season will play out.
