Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour came out last year in May. I fell in love with this album as soon as I heard it. I know many others have fallen in love with the album as well, and if you’re like me, you’re waiting for Olivia’s next album to come out. I thought it would be appropriate to talk about how Olivia created the album and what her inspiration was while creating these unforgettable pop songs.
“brutal” almost didn’t make it in the album at all. According to Olivia, “brutal” was made at the last second, but Olivia said she is glad that it was included in the final album.
“Guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me…” When Olivia sings something in a song, there’s always a lot of emotion behind it. Obviously, Olivia was going through a breakup when she wrote “Sour”. This is why all of her songs have a lot of emotion behind them kind of coming right at you.
Olivia’s favorite lyrics are from one of sadder tracks on the album, “hope ur ok”. “Hope he took his bad deal and made a royal flush.” This is Olivia’s favorite line on the album.
With an album that can be described as pretty bitter and bile, Rodrigo says she loves that she ended the album with a softer song. Olivia didn’t just want us to feel her anger within her album, but to feel other emotions which most teens can relate to as well. An example of this is displayed in “jealousy, jealousy”. Here, Rodrigo talks about social media and how people of today’s youth will compare themselves to others even when the stuff seen online is fake.
Olivia didn’t want an album with just one genre and took much inspiration from Taylor Swift’s earlier albums.
I hope you enjoyed learning about some fun facts as to how Olivia created her hit album, Sour.
